Trasports

Belize has 3.140 km of roads which cross the Country. A total of 641 km  are asphalted roads. The traffic system is divided into main streets, minor streets, and auxiliary streets. In the Country there are Four Highways: the Northern Highway is connecting Belize City to Corozal; the Western Highway joins Belize City to Cayo District; the Hummingbird Highway connects Belmopan to the District of Stann Creek; and then the Southern Highway which joins Stann Creek to Punta Gorda.
Moreover, Belize has 6 International Harbours. Four of them are located in the Belize City District Area: Fort Street Tourism Village for touring cruises;  Esso Standard Oil Ltd. for the wholesale trade of  fuel; Port of Belize Ltd. for containers and cargos; Belize Sugar Industries, for transport of sugar and molasses.
In the Southern part of the Country, in the Stann Creek District, there are two more harbours: Big Creek and Commerce Beight, which are used for delivery of bananas and citrus fruits.
The International Airport of Belize is “Philip SW Gordon International Airport”, located 10 miles far from Belize City. Works are still pending for the extension of  the airstrip, in order to allow the landing of intercontinental flights.
The Airlines operating in Belize are: American Airlines, Continental, United and Delta, arriving from the USA, particularly from Miami, Tikal Jets from Guatemala and Grupo Taca.
The principal National Airlines are two: Tropic Air and Maya Island Air. Both of them offer national and international daily charter flights to Guatemala.
Moreover, there are two local airlines: the Cari Bee Air Service and Javier’s Flying Service Ltd. which offer only national and international charter flights.
