or (www.belizeexplorer.com).
Hol Chan Navy Reserve ( in the Maya language it means “narrow channel)  was founded in 1987; it is the first navy Park in Belize and is located about 6 Km. South-East  from San Pedro. The Reserve was established with the aim of checking  fishery and diving activities and  to save the unique conformation of the channel, the numerous resources of fishery. The Reserve is useful to carry out the connection among the three most important habitats of Belize: mangroves, seaweeds and corral reef.
The reserve, whose  extension is  about 7,8 Km., has been divided into four zones, allowing the maximum  use of the area and at the same time its preservation.
“A” zone is the reef area, “B” zone is the seaweed beds, “C” zone is reserved for the mangroves, “D” zone:  Shark Ray Alley. The four areas are divided by  buoys located on the surface.
Hol Chan Marine  Reserve is an ideal place for snorkelling and diving.
