Cocksbomb basin wildlife sanctuary

The entrance is situated in a Maya Centre which is at the 15 Mile of Southern Highway, in the Stann Creek District.
The Sanctuary is located in the shadow of the Maya Mountains and surrounds about 405 km2 of humid tropical forest, whose heigh is from 90 meter above the sea level to 1.120 m. of  Victoria  Peak.             The Sanctuary is well known by name of “Reserve of  jaguar”: it was founded in 1984 as a reserve to protect a great number of jaguars, together with other local wild animals. As the sanctuary is a shelter for many felines, a numerous quantities of mammals and birds live there, keeping upright the foodstuff chain.
