Crooked tree wildlife sanctuary

Crooked tree wildlife sanctuary

The Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary was created to protect the non-migratory and migratory birds. It is located 50 km. north-west of Belize city, outside the Northern Highway, in the Belize District. It is formed by a thick net of internal lagoons, marshes and navigable channels. The sanctuary  supplies abundant food  resources: it is a sheltering area  for the numerous and variegated  types of birds. One of the most important migratory bird, the Jabiru Stork is  living in the Sanctuary. It is the biggest bird of North America, with its wings 3-4 m. wide.
Fortunately, Belize is giving shelter to the most numerous patterns of Jabirus of Central America.
In the eastern part of the sanctuary,  Black Creek is sheltering not only birds, but also Black Howler Monkeys, Morelet’s crocodiles and  different types of turtles and iguanas.
