Cerros
The ruins of Cerros are located on the peninsula facing Corozal Bay, in Corozal District.
Situated to the south of Corozal City, the ruins can be reached by a small boat crossing the bay. In the dry season, Cerros is reachable through roads, passing by the villages of Chunox, Progresso, Copper Bank and their wonderful lagoons.
During the late Pre-Classic Period, Cerros was an important commercial center.
There are three great acropolis overlooking different seats, and lined with pyramidal structures. Although it is known that two of the structures have some parts covered by stuccos, it is also important to know that this plaster served as a protection against erosion. From the highest structure whose height is 22 meters, it is possible to enjoy a panoramic view on Chetumal Bay, Corozal Town and on New River mouth, which leads to the Maya site of Lamanai.
